4 Food Blogs If You’re On A Budget

Moving out of home has been a stark reminder that budgeting is king! I remember way back in my second year of Uni I became obsessed with budgeting and making sure that I could stay healthy, eat good food and still save money wherever possible. It was mainly fuelled by a blogging project I had during University, “Steph’s Quick Cooks” was probably one of the most expensive University projects to date, but damn it was tasty! I made pizza naan bread, cornflake chicken and loads of other wacky but tasty dishes. It made a change from the yoghurt and super noodle meals I had become accustomed to as a student.

Moving away and becoming independent again has allowed me to channel that energy again. I’ve been on the lookout for healthy recipes for 2 that don’t cost to much money and are seriously healthy. Now I’m officially an adult and no longer a student I literally have no excuse not to eat healthy or at the very least enjoy a good wholesome meal.

But instead of investing £20-£30 in a cookbook thats destined to gather dust in the corner or become useable as pages stick together- I’ve been flicking through blogs.

Blogs are by far the best way to access information and its free! Think about it, the internet we know today was founded on blogs started in cramped bedrooms or mini photoshoots with aesthetically pleasing dinners. So it’s natural that these are some of best ways to locate unusual but healthy meals.

So if you’re on the look out for a new way to use your slow cooker, or your desperate to empty your cupboards before all the food expires. I recommend turning your gaze to your phone or computer, there are thousands of different recipes which could be perfect for you.

To help you along, I’ve listed 4 of the best websites for satisfying your munchies.

Pinterest

Before I became fully aware of what Pinterest could do for this blog, I used to use it to do two things: window shop for halloween outfits and look for recipes. Pinterest is the perfect starting point if you want to make something tasty but you aren’t quite sure what. For the purpose of this blog I searched the vague phrase “Cheap dinners” and here is the amazing variety of recipes which showed up.

While you’re building up your next meal plan, why not follow me on Pinterest? Only takes a few seconds!

Tasty

Owned by Buzzfeed, you won’t be surprised when you log into Tasty to see bright colours and some really obscure dishes. As well as writing and uploading their own recipes, there are thousands of community uploads from people looking to share their own secret recipes with the world. They have a wide range of search options that range from party sides to each meal prep recipes. I’ve got to warn you that you might be at risk of spending hours here!

Good Cheap Eats

I have a sneaking suspicion that Good Cheap Eats started out as someones side hobby and just escalated. The blog is filled with the things of a middle-aged mothers dream, but damn it does look tasty. I never thought about building my own burrito bar on a budget but it’s now all I want to do. The owner, Jessica Fisher, seems to upload regularly which means there is always new recipes at your disposal!

A Girl Called Jack

I must admit, I haven’t had the chance to test out any of Jack’s recipes just yet. But I absolutely love the story behind the book. Jack originally started the blog when she had just £10 a week to feed herself and her toddler. The recipes are incredibly cost-conscious and are perfect for anyone. I definitely recommend giving it a try.
