When Your Batteries Running Low…

Then of course it’s time to stop - but when you spend your life spinning multiple plates, how can you possibly know the right time to take a break?

If I’m being honest, I’ve always struggled with the idea of finding time to recharge or take respite from work. Balancing a freelance and a full time gig for so many years got me into the habit of just accepting it for what it was, work for one business 9-5 and then work for me 6-11. It felt fairly manageable for the most part, but I never realised how much stress I pushed back for another day.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while then you know that I’ve written about writers fatigue, burnout, and stress management more times than I could physically count. It was my way of processing the stress at the time.

Is it healthy? Probably not. But there’s something about developing a process to deal with stress. It’s better to have a way out the darkness than to ponder around aimlessly in it.

The thing is, we do so much when we’re running our own gig, we’re accountants, sales people, CFO, HR, and everything in between. Burnout and fatigue are bound to happen at some point or another.

But recharging is essential, whatever works, just make it work.
