Tales of a Birmingham Blogger

Well, I wouldn't specifically call myself a 'Brummie' the term sounds exclusive to cigar smoking lorry drivers in flat caps. For now we'll say I'm a Brummie.

I've spent the last few years of my life living up north; In the land of cheesy chips and gravy and weird accents. To me Chester still feels like my home more than the midlands, which is upsetting. Birmingham has changed so much within my lifetime alone. Now I'm back the city feels almost unrecognisable. So I've reinvigorated my old blogger life to document my journey to rediscovering Birmingham.

From the Digbeth to Bournville, I'll be revisiting and exploring Birmingham as if I'm a tourist. There might be a few other locations which feature on this blog but not too often.

As a city Birmingham is a beautiful tourist attraction; people come to see the art, the strange cultures, see different communities and cultures sandwiched together in a beautiful but much needed fashion.

From a local level, it’s still pretty awesome; hidden book nooks and nightclubs are dotted throughout the place, I’ve seen them on social media or heard their mention in passing. I feel like a tourist in Birmingham, the place I grew up in!

For those who have never visited Birmingham, heard the name on Peaky Blinders or went through it on a train. Here are a few things I love about Birmingham so far:

People

We’re friendly, fierce and a little bit batty. Just like any city, Birmingham is full of weirdos, but since the city is the 2nd biggest in the UK and has the biggest population of young people, it’s safe to say you’ve got a good chance of finding your tribe. People are remarkably proud of where they come from and are prepared to fight to protect the reputation of the city.

Location

They call it the midlands for a reason, Birmingham is slap bang in the middle of the country. So if you’ve got some arsey University mates who are moaning traveling to Birmingham, they literally have no excuse.

Chocolate

Birmingham is the home of the king of British chocolate. Cadbury’s world is a short journey away from the city center! Back in the day, they used to give out free chocolate at every corner of the factory. Hopefully, that’s still the same as I plan on visiting soon!

TheAccent

Bloody hell, the Birmingham accent ain’t half charming! If you ever meet a full Brummie you will most definitely know about it, the accent is strong and husky. Thomas Shelby simply does not do it justice.

So that's it! My very first official blog on this domain and under this name. I must say, my time as a blogger has evolved through many domain names and styles that I think I've completely scrubbed from the internet. So to me this is a fresh start, the end of one chapter and the start of a brand new one.

Thank you very much for joining me. :)
