Quarantine Resolutions- 5 Months On

How on earth has it been four months since lockdown? I can’t write tell if it feels like a few hours ago or a few years since the country had it’s first reported COVID case.

I don’t want to dwell too much on the negatives of this year (As you’ll probably agree with me, there is many). If I’m honest I don’t think I ever have chosen to dwell on the negatives.

Just a few weeks after starting this blog and six months into my dream job. COVID hit the country and I got furloughed. It should have been a horrific experience, but I decided to try my best to turn it into a positive one. If anything, I was inspired my Rupi Kaur’s commentary on the pandemic. We were going into dark times, but I wanted to find a flashlight to see my through it.

Thats where my quarantine resolutions came into place. I didn’t want to pressure myself into ticking boxes, dotting ‘I’ and crossing the ‘t’. I wanted to motivate myself to be better without the pressure of failing. I’ve also always hated the fact you can only make resolutions on New Years eve, like what is the point of that? You’re drunk when you make them and not responsible when they’re broken. I much prefer the idea of resolutions being made with a sober mind and clear thoughts.

At the start of lockdown I came up with a few things that I wanted to achieve. At this point we all thought lockdown wouldn’t be longer than 3 months, so It’s safe to say that I didn’t get too carried away with my goals. But I thought my time in lockdown would be the perfect chance to refresh my life, to up skill and detox. So I set 4 things that I wanted to achieve and now I think it’s time to look back, see if I achieved them and set some more!

I think many of us can agree that 2020 has not been the best year. In times like these it’s important to stay positive and search for a little bit of light. So let’s keep that upward momentum.

Pass my grammar courses

If you struggle with something, why not take the time to fix it? At the start of this year I felt there was a way for me to improve my writing. So I decided to spend some money and learn how to teach English as a foreign language (so everything from phonetics to proper grammar). It was a pretty big step in helping me change my mindset from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

Lose weight

Joe Wicks was my saviour during lockdown. Daily exercises helped me lose weight and quit smoking.

Socialise

Even though we couldn’t see each other face to face. Zoom calls became an absolute lifeline for my social life. I’ve also written numerous blogs about how to host a fun Zoom party if you’re interested.

Focus on me

I definitely overwork myself sometimes. So perhaps I haven’t quite been able to achieve this goal. But between working the 9-5 and building up my blog and other strings of income, I rarely take any time to relax and ground myself. So over the past few months I’ve been trying to take some time to read, paint and even go for a walk with some music playing.

My New Goals

Finish my online courses

After passing my grammar courses I decided to look for other ways I could grow and up skill. So I have a huge backlog of courses I would like to finish before the end of the year. Mainly Facebook, Google and blogging courses. So I’ll keep you updated and hopefully write a post about some of the best ones to sign up for.

Continue my weight loss journey

I have a goal. Not a specific weight, because I don’t think thats healthy. But I want to get to a point where I am totally happy with my body. So over the next few weeks and months I want to get back into exercising. The return to working life meant that I wasn’t able to maintain my daily workouts and I’ve started to get a bit of a jiggle in my wiggle.

Find balance in my life

It’s so so important to be able to have and maintain a positive balance in your life. You’ve got to be just as happy in your home life as you are in your work life; if you’re not then you need to manifest change for yourself. I’d like to do that by the end of this year, perhaps sooner.

See the world

Lockdown is ending. Our world is slowly opening up and we are beginning to stumble back out into the world and I can not wait to see it all properly.

I’ve never been much of a ‘see the world’ type of person. But I think after nearly 5 months stuck in doors, I’m ready to see the world a little bit.

So hopefully thats something that you’ll see on my blogs a little bit. Although I don’t yet own a passport. So for the meantime I’m traveling to different parts of the UK.
