How I Keep On Track Of My Goals
We’re officially still in our planning era at CWBS and I wanted to take some time to write more of a personal blog about organisation, purely because I want to.
I’ve always been a planner, a note taker, and a scribbler. Long before this was a marketing blog, I was writing all sorts - the URL is still Steph Writes Stuff because I still don't feel like there’s an inherent “theme” on here. While my content is still more marketing focus than it was in 2020, I still don't know if Im truly ready to commit to a theme on here yet.
That being said, my overall commitment to the blog was rubbish last year - so many things got in the way of my ability to write, mainly personal and occasionally professional - but the culmination of everything ultimately withered my spirit a little. Instead of committing to the more than reasonable blog a week, I lost track for months. CopyWritingBySteph has always been a safe space for me to explore my writing and Chanel creativity outside of marketing (even if that still means I just write about marketing).
I want 2025 to be different, and I think so far Im doing a pretty good job at setting myself up for success - from setting my intentions for the year, to planning and preparing - so I thought it was time to share my methods.
Organisational tips and tricks
1. Use a Planner or Digital Calendar
Keep track of appointments, deadlines, and daily tasks.
Break larger goals into smaller, manageable steps.
Use color-coding for different types of tasks (e.g., work, personal, fitness).
2. Declutter and Organise Your Space
Regularly clean and declutter your living and working areas.
Assign a specific place for everything you own to make it easier to find and store.
Use storage solutions like bins, labels, and folders.
3. Create Routines and Stick to Them
Develop morning and evening routines to set a structured start and end to your day.
Use habits like meal prepping or setting out clothes the night before to reduce daily decision fatigue.
Incorporate self-care and downtime into your schedule.
4. Adopt a Task Management System
Use tools like to-do lists, Kanban boards, or apps like Trello, Asana, or Todoist.
Prioritize tasks using methods like Eisenhower Matrix or ABC prioritization.
Regularly review and update your task lists.
5. Set Goals and Review Progress
Write down short-term and long-term goals and review them regularly.
Break goals into smaller, actionable milestones.
Reflect on your progress weekly to adjust strategies and stay motivated.
Sometimes getting the motivation to approach a task is the hardest part of the whole thing, but I’ve always found that planning, organising and laying the groundwork is the best way to get started.
In marketing, good organisational and planning skills are absolutely essential - there’s a benefit of posting reactively online but no matter what you still need to plan to reach some sort of goal or KPI - wherever you’re looking to promote yourself.
