Why Content Marketing Isn’t A Quick Win
Ever since this blog started (and to be honest, before that) I’ve sung off the same hymn sheet as every other marketer.
Content is KING.
But I don’t want any new business owners to confuse content writing as a simple approach. Because it really isn’t. Content is king because it’s effective, with the injection of time and skill in it’s creation.
In the age of ChatGPT it’s very easy for business owners to see blogs as nothing more than a one sentence prompt - but they have no idea that they’re doing more harm to their business than good.
ChatGPT can be the foundations of a good content strategy - but it should never be the bricks and mortar of it.
Truth be told, content marketing is a long term strategy that requires consistent tinkering and adjustments.
Why content marketing needs to be a long term strategy
Strategy Over Speed
I can see why it’s tempting, AI can produce thousands of words in a matter of seconds - for a content writer who spends hours mulling over the perfect tagline, it feels like a poison apple.
Quantity does not equal quality - speed doesn’t equal it either. There is absolutely no guarantee that ChatGPT will provide more effective marketing outcomes.
Effective content marketing requires:
Audience research – Understanding what your customers need and how they consume content.
Content planning – Aligning topics with business goals and buyer journeys.
Distribution strategy – Ensuring content reaches the right audience through SEO, social media, and email marketing.
Simply publishing AI-generated content without a solid strategy won’t establish your brand as an authority or convert visitors into customers.
SEO Takes Time and Effort
Many businesses assume that filling their site with AI-generated blogs will instantly boost their search rankings. In reality, Google values expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (E-A-T) more than content volume. To rank well, content must:
Be original and insightful, not just a rewritten version of existing content.
Provide accurate and up-to-date information that genuinely helps readers.
Be optimized for search intent, not just stuffed with keywords.
AI can assist with content creation, but without human oversight and SEO expertise, it won’t outperform well-researched, high-quality content.
You lose your brand voice with ChatGPT
Although the linked influencers may tell you otherwise, no amount of input will allow ChatGPT to perfectly mimic your brand voice or style - it’s much better to keep it in house.
We’re at a point with our society where most AI is easy to recognise with it’s over reliance of emojis and corporate buzzwords.
Great content marketing requires:
A consistent and relatable brand voice that builds trust.
Personal stories, insights, and experiences that AI can’t replicate.
A balance between AI efficiency and human creativity to make content engaging.
Your audience wants to connect with a real brand, not a machine-generated wall of text.
Content alone doesn’t build relationships
As much as I wish it was enough, a multi marketing strategy is the best approach if you’re looking to truly engage your audience.
Interact on social media – Spark conversations and respond to comments.
Nurture leads through email marketing – Keep your audience engaged with valuable insights.
Offer different content formats – Videos, case studies, and webinars can deepen engagement.
AI can help with content creation, but building trust and loyalty takes real human connection.
AI is a tool not the strategy
Like I said before, ChatGPT is the foundations, but never the bricks and mortar. The best results come from businesses that use AI for brainstorming and drafting content ideas, focusing on long-term value instead of quick wins, and have the ability to combine AI efficiency with old-fashioned human creativity.
The Bottom Line: Play the Long Game
Content marketing isn’t about quick wins—it’s about consistent, high-quality content that builds trust over time. AI can be a powerful assistant, but it can’t replace the strategic thinking, authenticity, and relationship-building that drive real success.
