3 Things Coming In 2021 That Give Me Hope

2021 hasn’t been too great so far. Both personally and in the news. But at the very least I’ve developed my appreciation for Netflix a little more. From Bridgerton to re-runs of the Office. My daily intake of culture, has become a vital part of my life right now. So I thought It would be good to go through some of my top TV recommendations and sequels.

It’s A Sin

A five-part drama from screenwriter Russell T Davies, this at-once effervescent yet stark, high-spirited and heartbreaking series (which borrows its name from a Pet Shop Boys song) delves into the lives of a group of young gay men in London during the 1980s Aids epidemic. On Channel 4 in the UK from January 22, and HBO Max in the US- premiered last week with the next episode coming soon.

The Serpent

I’ve actually watched this already and absolutely loved it. Tahar Rahim and Jenna Coleman star in the story of conman and serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who, with his partner Marie-Andree Leclerc, traveled through Asia in the mid-’70s, posing as a gem dealer while carrying out a spree of horrific crimes.

Bridgerton

Just like Tiger King last year, Bridgerton has been remarkably well timed for people in the UK. It’s been the silver lining of Lockdown 3.0 for many. The sudden re-emergence of every period drama ever made - because, after all, what is more comforting than crinoline and questionable hats during a pandemic? Netflix has gone a step further and - with Shonda Rhines’ production company, Shondaland - created its very own original costume drama set in Regency England and based on the best-selling Julia Quinn novels. Expect love triangles, social scandals and pouting protagonists worthy of any Jane Austen classic.
